The Education Department is committed to supporting the educational success of tribal members from early childhood through higher education. We provide comprehensive services including early learning programs, K-12 support, and higher education assistance to ensure every tribal member has the opportunity to achieve their educational goals.

How Can We Help You?

Higher Education Services

Higher Education assists tribal members with a high school diploma or GED to meet and be eligible for the tribal scholarship. Our services include support for college students, GED programs, computer lab access, boarding school assistance, and Johnson O'Malley program coordination.

Free computer lab access for community members to complete homework, job applications, and other educational activities.

Tribal Scholarship Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a CTWS tribal member
  • High school diploma/official transcripts or GED on file
  • Complete FAFSA application annually
  • Complete all BELOW 100 level classes (remedial courses)
  • Maintain 15 credits per semester
  • Maintain minimum 2.50 GPA

Application Deadline: July 1st annually

Boarding School Program

Important Information:

  • Students must be IN school prior to acceptance
  • Higher Education assists with applications (copying, faxing, mailing)
  • NO travel budget from Higher Education office
  • Schools provide travel: to school, Christmas break return home, return to school after break, and end of year return home
  • Applications must be submitted by member of a tribe

Application Deadline: July 31st

GED Classes & Requirements

Program Details:

  • Classes offered quarterly at Central Oregon Community College
  • ONE WEEK registration period at beginning of each quarter
  • Cost: $25.00 per subject
  • Open to community members

For 16-17 year old students:

  • Must be released from high school
  • Pick up Intent to Enroll form at any COCC campus
  • Take form to HS counselor for completion
  • Obtain Exemption from Compulsory Education form with principal/administrator and parent signature
  • Submit to GED teacher at orientation/registration

About JOM:

All Native American students within the 509-J School District and Wasco County School Districts are eligible for JOM services.

  • Complete JOM enrollment forms at Higher Education office
  • Request forms available for educational supplies and support
  • Committee members available to assist: Deanie Smith, Ardis Clark, and June Smith
